The Phoenix Way (TPW) is a national racial justice movement that is being delivered across the country. Inclusive North is the Northwest regional lead partner and delivers within Lancashire. Inclusive North has two sub-regional delivery partners: One Knowsley - Delivering in Cheshire and Merseyside, and GMECN - Delivering in the 10 boroughs within Greater Manchester. The aim is to address both the structural and systemic barriers and inequalities that Black and Racially Minoritised communities face in influencing and accessing funding in the UK. TPW will develop a pioneering model that others can replicate to ensure that communities facing poverty, exclusion, and discrimination influence decisions that affect their lives.

Upcoming for The Phoenix Way...

Lancashire

Inclusive North will be delivering a series of listening sessions designed to help groups and organisations learn about the work of The Phoenix Way Fund. These sessions aim to deepen understanding of the experiences, challenges, and barriers faced by BRM led organisations when applying for funding. National statistics show that BRM-led organisations are successful in only 20% of their funding applications.

These listening sessions will cover:

  • The purpose and priorities of The Phoenix Way Fund

  • The lived experiences of BRM led organisations in the funding process

  • The structural and systemic issues contributing to low success rates

  • Opportunities to build more equitable and inclusive funding practices

Support will be available to review unsuccessful grant applications, particularly Awards 4 All and Reaching Communities bids, to better understand why these may not have been successful. If you have a project idea, we can provide support to develop it further ready for submission.

The National Lottery (TNL) has committed to ringfence £50m over the next 5 years for this cause. The Phoenix Way is confident of a fruitful relationship, ultimately benefiting Black and racially Minoritised communities. Working in the community, for the community, can be challenging; however, the results are truly remarkable. If you would like to get involved, send an email: office@inclusivenorth.org.uk

“The Phoenix Way seeks to ensure that no community is left behind”

The Phoenix Way is a grant-making initiative designed to transform Black and ethnic minority communities. It was established in partnership with six regional leads supported by The Youth Endowment Fund, Chanel, and Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales. The Phoenix Way (TPW) is a national collaborative partnership created during the Covid-19 pandemic as a response to the structural inequalities that black and ethnic minority communities and community-led organisations face in relation to influencing and accessing grant funding in the UK.

The Phoenix Way is a racial justice movement that aims to address the structural and systemic barriers and inequalities that black and racially minoritised communities face in influencing and accessing funding in the UK. The goal is to develop a pioneering model that can be replicated by others to ensure that communities facing poverty, exclusion and discrimination influence decisions that impact their lives. • Drive transformational change at regional and national levels by adopting a racial equity, social justice lens and creating learning that impacts the wider funding ecosystem and black and ethnic minoritised communities and community organisations.

The Phoenix Way will:

  • Identify black & racially minoritised community organisations

  • Map their needs

  • Shape the grant-making process

  • Influence change by breaking down barriers and inequalities
